The Policy Engagement and Advocacy Training workshop targeted 30 Civil Society Actors in Nigeria. The training which was the second in the training series drew 30 CSOs in Nigeria to brainstorm on best practices to engage relevant stakeholders in ensuring an effective policy process in Nigeria and beyond. Four trainers and two Resource persons facilitated the 5 days workshop from 22 to 26 February 2010. Most of the participants were actors from NGOs, CBOs, FBOs, Women’s groups and Youth networks who are deeply involved in policy advocacy, analysis, and engagement, and are conversant with the dynamics of West African policy and political environment.
The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI), in collaboration with the Local Government and Public Service Reform Initiative (LGI) of the Open Society Institute (OSI) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) organised a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop in Policy Engagement and Advocacy for twenty (20) civil society actors in West Africa from 9 - 18 December, 2009. The overall objective of the training was to provide civilian actors across West Africa with practical skills and techniques in policy formulation, analysis, and influencing to enhance their individual and institutional ability to engage in policy discourse, interact with policy makers and influence public policy making processes.The 9-day ToT utilised the wide experience and expertise of LGI’s policy advocacy course director/trainer with the anticipation to augment the role of civil society as an indispensable partner in the promotion of good governance, democracy, peacebuilding and participatory development processes.
The West Africa Civil Society Institute in collaboration with the Convention de la Société Civile Ivoirienne (CSCI) supported by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa( OSIWA) organised a specialised training workshop on “Election observation and Early warning” for civil societyactors in Cote d’Ivoire from 9 - 11 November 2009. The overall objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of civil society actors to contribute to pre and post election management processes in order to ensure free, transparent and credible elections in Cote d’Ivoire.

The overall objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of civil society actors to contribute to pre and post election management processes.
The West Africa Civil Society Institute in collaboration with the Coalition de la Société Civile pour la Paix et le Développement Démocratique en Cote d’Ivoire (COSOPCI) and La Convention de la Société Civile Ivoirienne (CSCI) supported by the Open Society Initiative for West Africa organised a specialised training on “Fundraising and Monitoring and Evaluation” for civil society organisations in Cote d’Ivoire from 1 - 3 September, 2010. The overall objective of the workshop was to strengthen the capacity of civilian actors to raise funds on a sustainable basis and proffer skills that will enable them professionally assess the efficiency, effectiveness and impact of their projects/interventions and organisational performance.
