My Journey at WACSI, an Unforgettable Experience

Oyindamola Adegboye is a 2017 – 2019 Erasmus Mundus scholar in Education Policies for Global Development (Globed). She interned with the Knowledge Management Unit at the West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) from August - October 2018.

“My experience at WACSI was an enlightening one”, she said.

According to her, the experience helped her grow both in her career and her personal life. She highlighted the fact that WACSI has a unique approach to development and this made the learning more enriching. It was also educative for her to work in an organisation that gave her the opportunity to learn more about Africa and more specifically West Africa.

She commended the multi-lingual and multi-cultural environment at WACSI which, to her, provided several opportunities for her to develop personally.

“My writing and reporting skills were greatly improved by this experience”, she said.

Ms. Adegboye expressed her delight at the rare chance of getting to work with people from different countries and thus diverse cultural backgrounds. This gave her a broader perspective on a wide range of issues. She articulated that she was extremely pleased with the friendly and family-like ambiance at WACSI which enabled her to strengthen her cooperation skills.

“The internship at WACSI was a good introduction to the development landscape in West Africa because working in the development sector is something I envision in the near future”, she revealed.

She encouraged WACSI to keep up the good work it is doing and to strengthen its position as a thought leader for civil society in West Africa.

Ms. Adegboye is the first Erasmus Mundus scholar to have benefitted from WACSI’s flagship youth empowerment programme. The Institute is open to giving career development opportunities to young West African scholars or scholars across the globe who are interested in having first-hand experience working within the West Africa civil society space.
