Advancing The Financial Sustainability of Civil Society in Africa

Advancing The Financial Sustainability of Civil Society in Africa By Christian Elongue and Charles Kojo Vandyck

Civil Society in Africa is facing financial sustainability challenges. In this publication, the authors share valuable lessons from a Shared Learning Convening on Alternative Funding Models for Civil Society Organisations. The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) in partnership with Innovation for Change (I4C) Hub Afrique, organised this convening to provide a platform for twenty-five (25) civil society activists accross the world to share their experiences on their non-traditional responses to resourcing their initiatives and organisations. This Op-Ed explores ideas towards a more robust, financial sustainable and effective civil society in Africa and enforces the idea that civil society organisations can only be sustainable if they become more relevant to their constituencies, so that they could fund them.
