In 1993 an alternative model called the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Model was devised by Jody Kretzmann and John McKnight of the ABCD Institute at Northwestern University in Chicago.
The Model is a grassroots driven method of development which relies on, as its key drivers, the strengths, assets, and resources available to the community. It focuses on maximising what is readily available in the community.
