Civil society, together with government and the private sector, constitutes an essential pillar of a well-functioning state.
Civil society across West Africa has emerged as a key stakeholder in the development process and a vital force in strengthening governance processes. In West Africa, civil society continues to grow and evolve. The sector’s contribution to democratic development and consolidation has been significant. Nonetheless, civil society organisations across the region are generally fragile and dependent on donor funding mechanisms for survival.
CSOs are under immense pressure to operate, survive and thrive in an increasingly competitive sector while maintaining independence and continually generating funds to pursue planned operations and command strong recognition and influence. Furthermore, CSOs in the region are generally in a state where the likelihood of beneficiaries continuing programs and projects after donors’ exit looks less than satisfactory.
The Local Fundraising Course focuses on the importance of raising funds and diversifying the income of an organisation. This includes mapping potential donors and their positions and interests, learning how to approach them and keep them satisfied, how to use different communication materials and techniques, how to organise a fundraising event, and how to plan and budget.
The programme entails a combination of face to face training and intensive mentoring programme. After the training phase, participating organisations will develop a fundraising action plan which they can implement through mentoring and virtual coaching from WACSI.
CSOs that are interested in applying must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a CBO, Self-help group and NGO operating in Ghana;
- Must be legally registered as a non-profit organisation based in Ghana;
- Must have a good track record within the community of operation;
- Must have strong leadership and governance structures;
- Must be willing to complete this 5-months capacity development programme;
- Must have a minimum of 2 years of operational experience;
- Must be willing to pay a commitment fee of US dollars 200;
- Must commit to develop a fundraising action plan after the training phase of the programme and be willing to operationalise the action plan;
Application Deadline: Wednesday February 27, 2019. Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Duration of the Programme: The programme is intended to be implemented within a 5-month period running from March to July 2019.
Target Organisations: Priority would be given registered CSOs partners of Wilde Ganzen in Ghana.
How to Apply: Applicants should submit the following documents before February 27, 2019, to email@example.com
- Copy of the organisation’s registration certificate;
- Copy of the organisation’s governance structure (organogram);
- Filled and signed application form submitted in word or pdf format (download here ) ;
- A letter of motivation from the Head of the organisation stating why the organisation should be considered for this programme and how it will add value to its current work. The letter should indicate how the programme will strengthen their organisational capacity. This must be written in not more than 500 words.

If you have been a partner of Wilde Ganzen over the past years (2010 – 2018), you only pay US dollars 200 as a commitment fee and the programme would cater for accommodation, travel & transportation costs for organisations based outside Accra.
