Aid has long been seen as a key factor in supporting African countries in their journey toward socioeconomic development and improved governance. However, the lasting influence of colonialism continues to shape relationships between African nations, their non-profit organisations, and donor countries. This study delves into the complexities of aid, neocolonialism, and the role of policymakers in West Africa, with a focus on Nigeria, Senegal, and Guinea-Bissau. It explores the conditionalities of aid, the impact on non-profit decision-making, and the balance between external support and national sovereignty. The report offers practical recommendations for decolonising aid and fostering equitable partnerships.
