WACSI MARKS 20 YEARS OF IMPACT WITH A LANDMARK ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

[West Africa, 31 March 2025] – The West Africa Civil Society Institute (WACSI) is proud to announce the official launch of its 20th Anniversary celebrations, themed “20 Years of Impact – In and Beyond West Africa: Reflecting on Progress, Inspiring the Future.”

The milestone event will take place on Wednesday, 2 April 2025, setting the stage for a year-long series of activities aimed at highlighting WACSI’s invaluable contributions to strengthening civil society and advancing sustainable development across the region. Over the past two decades, WACSI has played a critical role in building the institutional and operational capacities of civil society organisations (CSOs), fostering advocacy, and enhancing governance across West Africa and beyond.

This anniversary presents a unique opportunity to reflect on past achievements, engage with key stakeholders, and chart a visionary course for the future of civil society in the region. The launch event will be attended by distinguished thought leaders renowned for their contributions to African development. In addition, the programme will include engaging panel discussions, bringing together experts, civil society leaders, policymakers, and development partners to deliberate on the evolving landscape of civil society and its role in shaping democratic governance and social transformation.

Recognising that civil society is not an end in itself but a means to achieving broader societal goals, WACSI’s capacity development initiatives are firmly rooted in its commitment to fostering peace, prosperity, citizen wellbeing, and sustainable development. By equipping CSOs with the tools and knowledge they need to be effective drivers of change, WACSI envisions a West Africa where development is people-driven and inclusive, an aspiration that extends beyond the sub-region to inspire global progress.

As part of its commitment to inclusivity and broad stakeholder engagement, WACSI will livestream the event, enabling partners, supporters, and civil society actors from across Africa and beyond to participate virtually.
