Abuja, Nigeria | 13 July 2026 – As Nigeria’s civil society sector navigates an increasingly complex regulatory environment, the WACSI Node Nigeria, in partnership with the European Union funded CSO Strengthening Bridge (EU CSO-Bridge) Project, implemented by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), has launched a strategic initiative to strengthen the institutional resilience of three national civil society platforms and enhance collective engagement on regulatory reform.
The initiative will provide tailored institutional strengthening and technical support to the Ethics and Good Leadership Awareness Initiative (EGLAI), the CSO Accountability and Transparency Initiative (CATI), and the Cooperative Federation of Nigeria (CFN). Together, these organisations play an important role in promoting accountability, sector coordination, and constructive engagement on regulatory policies affecting Nigeria’s civil society ecosystem.
The intervention comes at a critical time as civil society organisations navigate evolving governance and compliance requirements, including the implementation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the 2026 tax reforms, and other regulatory changes affecting Nigeria’s non-profit sector.
Over the project period, WACSI Node Nigeria will support the three partner organisations in strengthening their governance and institutional systems, establishing a Joint Engagement Platform for structured dialogue with government regulators and other key stakeholders, and developing sustainable resource mobilisation and financial resilience strategies.
The initiative will strengthen collective civil society action by promoting self-regulation, enhancing regulatory compliance, and fostering evidence-based policy engagement. It will also support the development of sustainable financing approaches to reinforce the sector’s long-term resilience, sustainability, and independence. By prioritising these platforms, the initiative is expected to generate sector-wide impact through improved coordination, dialogue, accountability, and policy influence, while contributing to a more enabling regulatory environment for civil society in Nigeria.
