“Trapped in Fragility: An Assessment of the Civil Society Landscape in Nigeria” offers a compelling evidence-based analysis of the realities shaping civil society in Nigeria today.
Drawing on insights from 693 organisations across all six geopolitical zones, as well as key informant interviews and sector-wide consultations, the report uncovers a deeply interconnected crisis that undermines the sustainability, resilience, and effectiveness of civil society organisations.
At the centre of the findings is a systemic starvation cycle in which chronic underfunding weakens institutional capacity, limits impact, and traps organisations in a state of continuous precarity.
More than a diagnosis of challenges, the study provides a critical reflection on the future of civic action, democratic participation, and locally led development in Nigeria, making it essential reading for policymakers, donors, practitioners, researchers, and all stakeholders committed to strengthening civil society.
