[Accra, Ghana – 30 January 2025] – WACSI and STAR-Ghana recently held their annual planning retreat to review the progress of the Civil Society Strengthening Programme – ShiftThePower and to establish strategic priorities for 2025. The event took place on 22 and 23 January 2025 in Accra, Ghana, bringing together key stakeholders from both organisations.
The retreat provided an opportunity to reflect on the programme’s impact and discuss ways to enhance support for civil society organisations (CSOs) participating in the programme across Ghana.
During the meeting, participants explored strategies to improve resource mobilisation within CSOs and ensure these organisations have the tools to navigate challenges independently. “By fostering greater self-sufficiency among CSOs, we are contributing to the long-term sustainability of the development impact we aim to create,” said Sarah Adjei of STAR-Ghana.
The retreat also emphasised the importance of local ownership in the programme’s success. Partners discussed how to encourage CSOs to adopt new models for sustainability, including diversifying funding sources, building strategic partnerships, and engaging more effectively with local communities.
As the ShiftThePower programme continues, both WACSI and STAR-Ghana are committed to supporting CSOs in strengthening their internal capacities and fostering sustainable development in Ghana. The retreat reaffirmed their shared commitment to ensuring that participating organisations are equipped to lead the change they wish to see in their communities.
